Brothers Knaffla, DeMerle, Dean, and Goudzwaard

In accordance with our founding principle of the development of character, the Michigan Chapter of Delta Upsilon has sought to promote scholarship endeavors in both our chapter and within our community.  The brotherhood improved its GPA by 3 tenths after the fall 2007 semester through a dedicated commitment to university studies.

In addition, the Michigan Chapter awarded two $500 scholarships to exceptional freshmen this fall. Let’s congratulate:
David Bos ‘12
Darin McLeskey ‘12

DU received over 80 applications for its annual scholarship this summer. After two rounds of interviews, we chose two highly qualified freshmen.

As a brotherhood, we strive for excellence in all facets of life.

Scholarship for Incoming Freshmen

This scholarship is intended to help young men who will be attending the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor Campus) for the 2008-2009 school year.  We feel that due to the rising costs of education, organizations in our position have a responsibility to reach out and assist fellow students in meeting their educational and future endeavors.  One thousand dollars will be awarded this year in total from the Delta Upsilon Memorial Foundation through two scholarships each worth $500.  The recipients of these awards will be chosen based on their personal and academic qualities.  You need not join Delta Upsilon or any other Greek society to be eligible.

The application process is simple.  We are interested in getting to know you, not in compelling you to do redundant work.  Therefore, most of the materials can be copied from application materials you have used to apply to colleges or other scholarships.  Please complete the enclosed application form and include the following, making sure your name is written somewhere at the top of each page:

•    A copy of your high school transcript and SAT and/or ACT scores.

•    An activity sheet detailing your involvement in and out of the classroom.

•    A short essay of statement about yourself and your plans for the future.  Please limit your essay to 500 words.  You may send us something you have written for another scholarship or college application.

Please send your application and the requested information together to the address listed above.  Applications must be postmarked by May 16th, 2008 for consideration.  All applicants will be contacted for a brief interview to take place during the first week of school.  This interview will be scheduled at your convenience and would not interfere with your classes or other academic activities.  Finalists will be invited to attend a scholarship dinner in the beginning of the school year at which time the scholarships will be awarded.

This scholarship is open exclusively to men entering the University of Michigan.  Because of this, we strongly urge you to apply; it will only take a few minutes of your time and may well be worth your effort.  If you have any questions at all, please contact me by phone or email.  I will be glad to assist you.  We know what it is like to be in your position and we would be glad to answer questions, give a campus tour, and show you the academic, cultural, and athletic activities available to you here at the University of Michigan.
